Overview of the problem

We were tasked with a comprehensive update of the company’s main dashboard as the system faced low user satisfaction and inefficient task execution.

The solution is to develop a system tailored for management, streamline the allocation of accountant tasks, and monitor expense data.

Empathize

Exploring the User's Needs

First step was to initiate efforts to comprehend the underlying issues with the existing system.
I was responsible for conducting in-depth interviews with 2 stakeholders and 6 users in a 45-minute to an hour-long interview. Before the interview, I prepared questions to guide the interview. However, I anticipated that the users and stakeholders would have different technical concerns and goals. So I prepared a range of questions and focused on the participant’s main concerns.

Users' Interview Findings

  • The current UI is confusing and not intuitive.
  • Frustration with an interface that is not intuitive.
  • There is a lot of data that is difficult to access and utilize/interpret.
  • Hard to read data in the current system.
  • Should be able to access more data and see trends without taking confusing steps.
  • There are not a lot of options when it comes to exporting data.
  • Data and reports are not easily accessible by phone.
  • Multiple notifications in the middle of the night that could be consolidated into one.
  •  Users are frustrated by redundant, disruptive notifications that are not easily actionable.

Define

Persona

After the empathize phase we were able to develop a person that follows the prioritization of user needs.

Ideate

Sketches & Wireframes

For the ideation phase, we utilized the crazy 8 brainstorming exercise. (Crazy 8 brainstorming session entailed 5-minute intervals of 8 sketches with an intentional break of 20-30 minutes. From this exercise, we selected the most viable ideas to develop a solution storyboard.

We then created a sitemap for our new update, aiming to streamline and simplify the presentation of information.
